Dear Parents and Carers,
Governors’ Report to Parents TLC Meeting – February 2024
The Governors met on 26th February. As usual, we had a detailed agenda and some important policy documents/issues to work through.
This was a meeting of the TLC which stands for Teaching and Learning Committee. As the name suggests, this is a separate committee focusing specifically on teaching and learning, and all Governors sit on this committee as it is fundamental to our school and the school’s ongoing development.
We were given an update on governor membership, and were informed that prospective governor interviews have been taking place for a co-opted governor, and we are close to a new governor joining us soon. They will be a great addition to the team. We will keep you posted once they are in post!
The minutes of our previous meetings held in December 2023 and January 2024 were reviewed, discussed and approved.
We discussed the teaching and learning priorities for the Spring/summer Term – these will be reviewed with each teacher. In particular, we discussed the ongoing training of the staff, both teachers and support staff.
Mr Crawley presented to the committee, an update on his training on the teacher education fellowship – this is a course that he has been attending in relation to his continuing professional development (CPD)/on-going teacher training. His experiences have been imparted onto other staff members. Such topics as “what makes a great teacher” have been addressed. This is all about teaching teachers and teacher training, coaching and motivating our teachers.
Mr Crawley has been liaising with his peers on the training course and found their different experiences invaluable.
Mr Crawley explained that the approach is trying to build a positive culture whereby staff are open to discussion and new approaches. He explained that he hoped to achieve small, granular and effective changes
He explained that all teachers had also been training and taking advantage of the “great teaching tool kit” but it is the intention to phase in “step lab” for future training needs.
There are a range of new ideas that staff are working on in order to ensure the ongoing development of education in our school.
Mr Raraty delivered his headteacher's update and including attendance and the Governors were satisfied with progress and statistics.
The board discussed and agreed minor amendments to the school uniform, effective from the autumn term, in particular with regard to shoes, trainers and bags. The outcome of our discussions will be shared with you all in due course.
Mr Raraty updated us on the school development plan and the “Rodings Road Map”. The Governors were very happy with progress.
We discussed after school clubs going forward, with the purpose of providing a wider range of clubs focused mainly on areas of art and sport. This is an ongoing matter, and we will provide further updates.
We reviewed progress with regard to the topics map, and learning ladders - these are all planned with the learning objective to ensure that all areas are covered. Moving forward to the summer term, we now concentrate on “create”. These can be reviewed on the school website.
We are hoping for artists, dancers and musicians etc. to come into the school to help with development in this area.
As part of this process, we have been liaising with a fine artist to create a mural on the swimming pool wall, she will be ably assisted by a group of ten children chosen from Years 3 and 4. We look forward to the summer term when the pool is open and the efforts of our children can be enjoyed by all.
Finally, the Board attended to the update, review and agreement to the behaviour policy.
Colin Todd
Local Authority Governor
