Sports Day Results
I hope you had an enjoyable afternoon watching the children compete in their different events. We were so lucky with the weather! The results are in, and I am proud to announce that Tilty are this year's winners.
Each house will have the following points added to their termly total:
Tilty: 349
DeVeres: 339
Mandevilles: 292
Hrotha: 251
Congratulations Tilty!
Swimming
Swimming lessons will start after half term. Mr Partridge has done a superb job of refurbishing the pool ready for the swimming season. Josh will be returning as our swimming coach which we are so pleased about.
We have made a few changes to the swimming timetable for this year. Rather than having two short 15 or 20 minute sessions a week the children will be having one 30/40 minute session instead. So same amount of swimming time but in one session. We have decided to do this for logistical reasons.
The classes will be swimming on the following days:
Monday: Goslings, Kingfishers, Woodpeckers
Tuesday: Swifts, Kookaburras, Hummingbirds
Wednesday: Toucans, Year 5 and 6 children who haven’t met the national curriculum standard of 25m (You will be notified if your child is included in this group)
Thursday: Wrens, Doves*
*Doves will swim on a Wednesday on 20th and 27th June.
Once again we will be asking for a contribution towards the costs of swimming. Although we have to provide swimming lessons as part of the national curriculum, we do not receive additional funding to operate our pool. Hence, we would really encourage you to make the contribution, if you can, so we can keep this brilliant school asset running. Further details have been emailed today.
Heyward Cup Nominations
At the end of each academic year we award a trophy for sporting achievement outside of school. The Heyward Cup was donated to the school by the Heyward family when their children left the school. The family were heavily involved in sports and believed in the power of sport to transform lives. Nominations are now open for this year's award.
The award is given to a child who has shown outstanding achievement or great progress in their given sport.
If you would like to make a nomination, please email me (mr.raraty@rodingsprimary.co.uk) explaining the reasons why your child deserves to win the award, you may want to include some photos as well.
Nominations close on the 21st June. I will then forward the nominations to the Heyward family who will make the final decision.
Father’s Day
To One Special Gentleman:
To celebrate Father’s Day, we are inviting one special gentleman per family to join our Goslings, Swifts, Wrens and Woodpeckers for a special activity afternoon on Friday 14th June 2024 at 1.45pm
Following the brilliant 'Den building' task last year, we would like to invite the Dads to design and make a kite with their child/children, on the school field/playground. Please remember to bring all the equipment (such as, plastic sheets, fabric, sheets, string, tape, dowelling…whatever you think you will need)! The aerodynamics and the ‘flyability’ of the kites will be tested!
As last year, there will be a very brief introduction to the task in the hall, and then Dads will be escorted to the playground/field by their child/children. If Dads could make sure they know the name of their child/children’s class, that would be really helpful, thank you.
Love the Goslings, Swifts, Wrens and Woodpeckers
Remember only one gentleman per family, please.
We are looking forward to a fun afternoon with you all!
Lost Property
Can I put out a plea for all school uniform to be named. We are accumulating a huge amount of lost property at the moment and 90% of it is not named. This makes it hard to return to the right owner. If we are not able to match the item and owner within two weeks we will donate the uniform to the pre-loved uniform sale.
Kiss and Drop
Just a reminder that the morning ‘Kiss and Drop’ system is intended to be a safe but quick way to deliver the children to school. A growing number of parents are parking and leaving their car to walk the children down the path. This is leading to tail backs onto the main road which could cause an accident. Please remember that if you need to get out of the car to support your child, it should be quick and then move on. Thank you for your understanding.
Have a fantastic half term and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 4th June.
Be safe and have fun!
