Good afternoon to you all,
YEAR 4 PUBLIC SPEAKING
I'd like to start by congratulating both our teams of children in Year 4 who took part in the public speaking competition at Anglia Ruskin University this week, and in particular to Parrots who came away with first place overall.
UKRAINE
You cannot have missed the awful events that are happening in Ukraine. As you may be aware, a small number of Ukranian families are beginning to move into the area, and therefore we have begun to receive admission applications. Where we have spaces, we will be doing what we can to support these families. Diversity and Inclusion are strengths of this school, and we strive to make sure that anyone who joins our school community feels welcome and supported.
We acknowledge that the children will be aware of new children joining, and it's very likely that they will have some knowledge and understanding of the situation in Ukraine. We also know there is a lot of incorrect and/or misleading information on into internet. With this in mind I will be delivering an assembly to the school on Monday where I will be discussing the situation in Ukraine, with the children, in an age appropriate way. An important message that I will be sharing is that, in war, there are victims on all sides and how we need to think of those suffering and in need and do what we can to help them. Most of all that we empathise with those caught up in the conflict and the refugees. In school, we are sharing the message that we cannot blame groups of people for what is going on.
I wanted to inform you of this in case you wanted to discuss the situation at home beforehand. We have compiled a list of resources that support in having these conversations with children. Please scroll down to find these.
SPORTS DAY
We are really pleased to be able to return to our usual Sports Day event, which is being held on Friday 20th May, this does mean that we will be allowing parents to join the children on our school field for a picnic lunch and then spectate for the afternoon events.
- Parents will be allowed on site from 11:45am, and will go straight to the field. Please bring a picnic lunch for yourself and your child(ren)
- The children will come out at 12:00pm for their lunch (children will still be able to order a take-out picnic lunch from the Galley, should they wish). If you are unable to attend then your child will be able to sit with their friends and/or adults from their class.
- The children will go back inside to register at 12:30pm and then return to start the races for 1:00pm
- Once Sports Day is completed, you will be allowed to take your child(ren) home
Please note that there will be no parking available on-site. Please park considerately.
JUBILEE
Plans for a whole school celebration are underway. More details will follow next week.
TUCK AT BREAK TIMES
I have recently noticed a decline in the quality of snacks that children are bringing into school for break time. I have seen children with lollipops, significant amounts of chocolate, sweets and other unhealthy items. I do recognise that we all enjoy a little chocolate, and I am happy for children to have a chocolate bar for some of their snacks. Every child in the EYFS and KS1 has access to fresh fruit and veg each day.
I have listed below some ideas of healthy snacks and here is a link to the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/ Please support the school and your children in making a healthy choice for their snack.
Veggie sticks, Breadsticks or sliced pitta with Hummus, Chopped fruit Dried fruit (apricots, raisins, sultanas), Dairylea Dunker or Babybel, Veggie crisps or low-fat baked options, Yoghurt tubes, Banana Muffin, Flapjack
I hope that all have a lovely weekend
Mr. C
