Change to School Hours

The Government has issued a new education white paper requiring schools to set a minimum week of 32.5 hours. Currently, at Rodings, we do not meet this requirement so from Monday 31st October school hours will change to the following:

  • School gates will open for all children at 08:30 and close at 08:40.

  • Registers will be between 8:40 and 08:45

  • First lesson will start at 8:45am. A child will be classed as late after this time. A child will receive an unauthorised late after 9am.

  • School will end at 15:15 for all children.

The new school hours have both a contractual and financial implication for staffing, so we have had to make the hard decision to stop the staggered collection at the end of the day, and the drive through collection will no longer operate. This decision is also been reinforced by recent complaints by local residents about the blocking of the road.

From the 31st October parents arriving by car will need to find somewhere to park and walk into the playground where the children will be released to you. This is how collection operated before the pandemic.

The new collection arrangements are by no means a perfect solution and will result in different traffic issues. Please can I ask that if you qualify for school transport, that you start using this service. If you can walk or car share please consider this as parking will be very limited.

I’ll publish more details nearer the time. As always, we will review arrangements once they have been in place for a period of time.

I would politely ask for patience and understanding as we transition into the new school hours arrangement.

Many Thanks!

Harvest Festival

Our Harvest Festival will be held next Friday 7th October at 2pm. We are inviting our EYFS and KS1 parents along to this special assembly. Each child can invite two guests. If you are bringing young siblings, they will be one of the guests. Now we are a bigger school, space is limited.

Once again, we will be asking for donations to Uttlesford Food Bank from all year groups. Each year we are able to send a significant amount of provisions to the Food Bank to support local communities. I know that times are tough but we would really appreciate any non-perishable donations. A list of suitable items is shown below. Many Thanks!

Have a lovely weekend!

Update from the Governing Board for September 2022

Another positive meeting this month with lots of updates and information shared by Mr Raraty and his team.

It was great to see Mr Raraty back in the Meeting this month after returning from a long stint at the Flitch Green Academy, thanks and recognition was given to Mr Crawley on ‘holding the fort’ during this time and doing a Super job.

The Board of Governors reviewed and agreed on the Committee Structure going forward along with Link Governors, as there is no specialism it allows everyone to have a degree of proficiency across all areas or governance and helps avoid repetition. Following this, the subject of Governor school visits was discussed, and dates agreed where each governor will attend school and visit their class link to spend some valuable time with the children and teachers. There was also mention of a Christmas lunch with our link classes which we are all very much looking forward to.

A thorough and insightful Head Teachers update from Mr Raraty addressing several areas. Attendance is an area that requires attention as we are currently below where we need to be as a school, going forward Attendance will be a focus point for the Governing Board along with the School Leadership Team discussing and implementing ways in which we can achieve better Attendance results.

Great to hear in the Staffing update that our new Reception Teacher Miss Birch is enjoying her role within the school and getting to know all the children in her class. We also were informed of the 4 new LSA’s of which 2 are replacement roles and 2 were SEN Welfare Staff. The governors also received updates on Safeguarding, the School Development Plan, Data Review and Health & Safety.

And finally, we wish Mr Clements a speedy recovery post Op he will be missed over the next few weeks and congratulate Mr Wright on his newly appointed role of ‘Chief Lawn Cutter’ in Mr Clements absence in addition to his day job of course!

From the Safer Essex Road Partnership

Years 5 School Speed Watch

This month the year 5 pupils had a visit from the Safer Essex Road Partnership where the children, with Road Safety staff and Police Officers, observed the speeds of vehicles along the road outside of their school.  30 speeding drivers were pulled over during the day and the children spoke to 27 of these, the police issued tickets to others.  The top speed recorded was 52MPH along the 30mph road.

The Mander's family raised £625 towards Clarke's London Marathon run for Touretttes action, as well as raising some much-needed awareness for this misunderstood, Complex disorder.

Lots of the local children that attended got involved and helped out with the stalls and had a great time, it was so lovely.

We had some amazing raffle prizes donated from local businesses and the help of our wonderful friends on the day!

Clarke will be running this Sunday 2nd October.

You can still donate via the link
