Celebration Assembly
We regularly review our policies and procedures to make sure that they are fit for purpose. We are currently evaluating our behaviour policy and as part of that review we have looked at the rewards we give out to the children to praise and encourage them. Our routine for celebration assembly is well established, but it needed a bit of a refresh, so today's celebration assembly looked slightly different.
Each child celebrated will be given a 'Star of the Week' badge to wear for the week. They will then hand it over to the next star the following week.
We have introduced a Friend of the Week. This is to recognise those children that have gone above and beyond in showing the Core Value of Care and just being a great friend. Our first recipient was Emily from Woodpeckers. Congratulations!
We also have a new way to display our house point totals. Similar to the charity tokens you get at Tesco, we have our own version but related to each house. Each week, the House Captains will calculate the house points awarded across the school and fill up the tubes with tokens. The children were very excited by this today!
Finally, Hot Chocolate Friday will be reserved for those that are nominated for the Effort Cup at the end of each half-term.
Accelerated Reader certificates, Reading bags for Key stage 1 and Mount Multiply remain the same.
We hope that the changes will give Celebration Assembly a refresh and encourage the children to continue to try hard and follow the Core Values.
Attendance
This week, we have conducted our half-term attendance reviews. Where necessary, letters will be issued next week for poor attendance below 90% and poor punctuality. Any attendance at 90% or below is classed as a 'persistent absentee' whether this is related to ill health or not.
There is a national attendance crisis in schools at the moment following the pandemic and the local authority are keeping a very close eye on school attendance.
At Rodings, the vast majority of children attend regularly, and I have to issue very few warning letters. However, the number of children turning up late for school is increasing.
Please remember that children need to be in class for 8:40am with registration closing at 8:45am. Any child not in the classroom from 8:45am is classed as late.
If anyone is struggling with punctuality, please get in contact so that we can support and give advice. I'd rather help children and parents than issuing warning letters.
Have a Lovely weekend!
