Governor Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
The school's teaching and learning committee met on Monday 13th May.
The minutes of the previous meeting were discussed, reviewed and approved.
To start, we had a membership update and we were all pleased to hear that Sam Kilpatrick will be joining the governing board as our Staff Governor. We look forward to welcoming her at our next meeting. We still have a Co-opted Governor vacancy which we look forward to hopefully filling soon.
Mr Raraty gave his Headteacher's update where he spoke about the Safeguarding Audit which had taken place with Essex County Council. This was a thorough but worthwhile experience for the school. We are currently awaiting the report but he was extremely positive.
We were sad to hear that Sharon Holmes will be leaving us on Friday and also the retirement of Debbie Simpkins who will be leaving at the end of the academic year. On behalf of the Governors, can I thank you both for all your hard work and commitment that you have given to Rodings over the years and we wish you well.
Mr Raraty went on to tell us about how well the Year 6 children had been dealing with their SATS. He commented on their good behaviour and focus. We hope they all have a restful weekend after this week.
The new parents meeting for the Gosling Class 2024 will take place on the 5th June. A governor will be present for you to meet and also a representation of the Friends of Rodings. The new class of Reception will be one form entry with a class of 30 children.
The detailed school development plan was next for discussion where Mr Raraty talked in detail about how well and on track the plan is.
We discussed in detail the work that has been put into the school being part of the Goldsmiths Artsmark Award. As the only creative quality standard for schools and education settings, Artsmark supports settings to develop and celebrate their commitment to arts and cultural education for all children and young people. Their flexible framework helps embed arts, culture, and creativity across the curriculum, and Goldsmiths’ will play a key role in supporting schools to reflect, evaluate and celebrate their arts provision through its national training and support offer.
Training has taken place by Mr Raraty and Mrs Coates-Reynolds and a lot of hard work is going into the preparation and planning of the Statement of Commitment which will begin the school's two year process to achieve this award.
An in depth look at the schools Attainment and Progress data was good to see, an increase in children receiving ‘Greater Depth’ can be seen in Reading, Writing and Maths. Mr Crawley gave us an insight into assessment and the work that goes into this process.
We then went over the results from both the Parent and Pupil surveys and analysed the data.
Mr Crawley gave us an update on the school radio. He has been working hard to fix and update the parts needed and we look forward to it hopefully being up and running before the end of the year.
We discussed our Governor Plan and talked about sharing out responsibilities now that we have a nearly full board!
Sports Day is fast approaching! Mr Crawley gave us an update on the changes this year and we look forward to seeing the children enjoy their day of sport!
Let’s hope the sun shines!
